Charity 7s Tournament
On Saturday 13th July, the 3rd annual 7’s Charity Tournament organised by the Club raised £460. This will go to the Heart of Kent Hospice (£260) and Hope Asia (£200). The other great result was that everyone had a lot of fun on a blisteringly hot day. The sides comprised of mixed teams of 7 players; new and experienced. A fair splattering of club worthies here. There were 8 teams in all, who played each other once – Gorgeous Gore Court, Maidstone Harriers, Kent Police, One Hit Wonders, Heart of Kent Hospice, 6 Englishmen & Sam, Tuesday Nighters & Bower Grove School.
Starting at 9.30am, it ended at 3.30pm. The Tournament was superbly run by the Club (primarily Wendy & Mick Emery), and everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. After the matches there was a barb-e-que and the bar was open as the sun shone. It was a real party atmosphere. In addition, raffle tickets were sold to win lots of prizes from bottles of wine to jelly beans. The Tournament was won by 6 Englishmen & Sam, and they received the trophy, previously won by Kent Ploice and Heart of Kent Hospice. Our own Matt Emery, the skipper, received the trophy and is shown in the photograph. This has become an important annual event. Caroline Brinkman, Corporate Fundraiser for Heart of Kent Hospice, thanked everyone for their fabulous efforts on the field and for supporting the raffle.
