Hockey House Success
During the Olympics there was much supporting activity at the Club. We were honoured to be given the accolade of 'hockey house' by the governing body - there were only 10 other clubhouses so honoured, so we were the only one in Kent. The pitch was alive before or after each GB match with various activity - junior v parents, 'give it a go' for both adults and juniors, charity 7s, triangular tournaments, mhc v the harriers, sponsors' event, etc. In the clubhouse all the GB matches were shown live on the big screen, and there were hosts of social events - sumo wrestling, karaoke, fiestas, barb-a-qs, quizzes, president's event and discos. There was always food available, and guest beers. Cathy Gilliat-Smith, former GB and England international, opened the 'house' - see photo.
